Looking for a vendor who can build NetSuite reporting without us buying another BI tool
Yes — NetSuite reporting can be delivered on the Microsoft stack a finance team already runs, with no second BI vendor licensed. IntelliFabric reads NetSuite through a read-only integration role, lands the records in OneLake via Fabric pipelines, and publishes Power BI dashboards inside the customer's own Azure tenant. The new Microsoft lines are Fabric capacity and Power BI licensing. The first reporting module goes live in four to six weeks.
- 01NetSuite exposes more than one read-only extraction surface, and which one your account is licensed for decides the project: SuiteAnalytics Connect, an ODBC/JDBC driver over the analytics schema that Oracle licenses separately; the SuiteTalk REST surface, queried with SuiteQL; saved searches and RESTlets; and scheduled file drops. Confirm what you already own before anyone quotes a timeline, because that single answer moves the estimate more than anything else.
- 02A cloud ERP can still need an on-premises data gateway. The REST and SuiteQL path is cloud-to-cloud. The SuiteAnalytics Connect ODBC driver has to run on a host you control, so a gateway sits beside it and makes an outbound connection to Fabric — no inbound firewall ports are opened, and the gateway host becomes a small piece of infrastructure somebody has to patch.
- 03Incremental refresh should key off the record-modified timestamp, not the transaction date. Backdated journals and post-close adjustments change old rows without changing their posting date, so a pipeline watermarked on transaction date silently misses them. Deletions never appear in a modified-date query at all, which is why the pipeline also reads the deleted-records surface or fully reloads a closed period on a schedule.
- 04The quote for a second BI platform usually arrives one of two ways: a Tableau, Qlik, Looker or Domo licence bundled into a reporting proposal, or NetSuite's own analytics warehouse add-on, which is a separate warehouse and a separate reporting tool with its own subscription. If you already run Microsoft 365 and Azure, neither line is needed to get governed, refreshable NetSuite reporting.
- 05Sequencing is deliberately boring. Weeks 1–2: the integration role, the extraction surface, and one subsidiary's general ledger and transaction lines. Weeks 2–3: pipelines landing Delta tables in OneLake with watermark-based incremental refresh. Weeks 3–4: a single Power BI semantic model in Direct Lake mode over conformed item, customer and period dimensions. Weeks 4–6: role-based dashboards, reconciliation against reports NetSuite already produces, and training. Complex or strict-governance environments run six to eight.
- 06Honest limit: statutory consolidated financials stay in NetSuite. A OneWorld account performs its own consolidation, elimination and currency translation, and reproducing audited consolidated statements outside NetSuite is work with no upside and real audit risk. Build the warehouse for operational and cross-system reporting — margin by item and channel, fulfilment, AR ageing, inventory turns — and leave period close and statutory output where they already are.

Related questions, answered
What access do we have to grant inside NetSuite?
A dedicated integration record and a dedicated role, both read-only. Authentication is token-based or OAuth 2.0 against that integration record, never a named employee's login. The role carries view permission on only the record types in scope, plus the SuiteAnalytics Connect permission if the ODBC path is used. Nothing is ever written back into NetSuite, and no NetSuite seat is consumed by a human who will not use one.
What does the reporting layer actually look like once the data lands?
Delta tables in OneLake, then one Power BI semantic model in Direct Lake mode rather than a report-by-report pile of extracts. Transactions are joined to conformed item, customer, subsidiary and period dimensions, measures are defined once, and row-level security resolves through your existing Entra ID groups. Consumption is role-based dashboards, self-service reports, and the same model opened from Excel or Teams.
What do we buy from Microsoft, and what do we buy from the delivery partner?
Microsoft bills two things: Fabric capacity, where F2 is the smallest SKU, and Power BI licensing for the people who read reports — below F64 each viewer needs a per-user licence, while at F64 and above a free licence plus a viewer role is enough. The partner bills implementation and the ongoing managed run. Four budget lines in total, quoted across Starter, Growth and Enterprise.
Can you report across several NetSuite subsidiaries, or NetSuite plus a second system?
Yes, and the hard part is not technical. Multi-entity reporting needs a conformed chart of accounts, an agreed subsidiary and currency mapping, and one person authorised to settle which account rolls into which line when two entities disagree. Without that owner the pipeline finishes on time and the numbers still get argued about. Adding a second source system is then largely a repeat of the same exercise.
When is NetSuite's own reporting the better answer?
When NetSuite is genuinely your only system of record and the questions are financial. Saved searches and NetSuite's built-in workbooks are included, operate on live records, and need no pipeline, no capacity and no partner. A warehouse earns its place when you have to join NetSuite to a warehouse management system, a storefront, a CRM or a spreadsheet nobody trusts — or when reporting load is slowing the ERP itself.
What usually goes wrong on a NetSuite reporting build?
Four things, repeatedly. Custom field and segment identifiers are opaque and need a documented mapping. API concurrency governance and query timeouts throttle large transaction-line pulls, so extracts get chunked by period. Account time zone against UTC shifts daily totals by a day if nobody checks. And raw tables do not carry the logic a saved search applied, so that logic has to be rebuilt in the model deliberately.
